I really enjoyed being in the North congregation on Sunday; it’s a great congregation. It has been a while since I have spoken there with being out of action with the ops. It was good to catch up with Meng, as he and Kirstin have relocated from Cambridge. I heard very good reports on Steve and Bex’s preaching in the East. It was a bit of a shock for Steve to preach three services in a morning.
This Saturday in the East we have our Business Breakfast featuring Alasdir Thompson. Alasdir was a three-term mayor of the Thames-Coromandel District, a director of Power New Zealand, commissioner of the Waikato Area Health Board and chief executive officer of New Zealand’s Employers and Manufacturers Association. In 2011, his life took an unexpected turn when he made a controversial comment in a radio interview. The cost was devastating— he lost his position as CEO, fell from public grace and gained worldwide notoriety. It was a thoroughly humiliating experience. His story tells of his transformation from someone who was successful yet unhappy to a man who sought God, learned to embrace what is truly important and found joy in everyday life. Ring the office at the East if you want tickets. On Sunday morning I am back in the East, and then in the evening we have Maurice Quartiero from Heaven’s Gates – Hell’s Flames speaking.
