Marilyn had a lady describe someone as a ‘Holy Spirit man’ last week. I wondered, what did she mean by that? Did she mean that this person had a strong emphasis on prophesy or tongues and interpretation? My concern is that we have reduced the Holy Spirit to a holy word or a holy tongue. I remember a pastor of a large AOG church in the States talking about Pygmy Pentecostals. Just think about it; the Spirit of God who hovered over this formless, empty earth, and at the Word of God created every amazing part of this creation; is now limited to a prophetic word or tongue on a Sunday morning. What is a Holy Spirit person? Jesus said we will know them by their fruit. What is the fruit of someone’s 10, 20, 30 years of serving the Lord? If someone has a “Gift of Faith” (which is also a Gift of the Holy Spirit) to build a great business to finance the Kingdom of God, is that person also not a Holy Spirit person? Or to build a great school or church; or to have mercy to reach the down-trodden; or to just love and encourage believers in their faith? The church needs to grow up in its understanding of the ministry of the Holy Spirit and stop putting a few on a pedestal. It creates unhealthy, unbalanced churches. 1 Comment |
